Applied bachelor in the specialty «Nursing»
At the Republican College for the Training and Retraining of Secondary Medical and Pharmaceutical Workers in accordance with the order of the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated July 23, 2014 No. 417 “On the introduction of an applied bachelor’s educational program in the specialty” Nursing “in the experiment mode” from 1 September 2014, training began on the Applied Bachelor’s Educational Program.
The term of study is at least 3.5 years, with a total labor intensity of 6,300 hours (140 kz credits), of which the number of hours of clinical practice is 3072 hours (68 kz credits). Upon completion, a qualification is awarded – Bachelor of Applied Sciences in the specialty “Nursing”.
The structure of the educational program is modular. Each semester consists of 4 modules and 1 clinical practice. Each module defines the number of hours of classroom lessons, simulation lessons, independent work of students and practical exercises in the clinic.
The main goal of this training is to train practice-oriented nursing specialists of a new formation who are able to actively and
effectively use the knowledge gained during the period of study and in practice, able to think critically and analytically, effectively manage resources and work in accordance with the principles of patient safety.
According to the order, the order of the director of the RMK No. 68 / II of September 2, 2014 “On the creation of a working group for the implementation of the educational program of applied bachelor’s degree in the specialty” Nursing “in the experiment mode was issued, in the following composition:

Admission of persons to study under the applied bachelor’s program was carried out within the framework of the state educational order in the amount of 25 people (group 1).

According to the Regulation on holding in 2014-2017. in the experimental mode of teaching on the educational program of applied bachelor’s degree in the specialty “Nursing” tutors were trained from among experienced teachers for each module of the educational program. A working group has been created to implement the educational program. The material and technical base for the educational process has been prepared, an applied bachelor’s office has been organized. The office is equipped with an interactive whiteboard, TV, computers, laptops for group work with Internet access, there are the necessary modern mannequins and simulators for the implementation of the educational program.

An important task for the implementation of the applied bachelor’s program is the preparation of college teaching staff and mentors from medical organizations. Since the beginning of the program implementation, 19 teachers and 4 mentors of applied bachelor’s degree in the specialty “Nursing” have been trained in this direction with the participation of FUAS experts on the following topics:
- “Building the capacity of teachers based on a competency-based approach in nursing education”;
- “Training on the use of innovative technologies (trainers)”
- “Training on the use of simulation technologies (trainers)”;
- “Mentoring students in the clinic in the specialty” Nursing “;
- “Capacity building of teachers based on a competence-based approach in the specialty“ Nursing ”;
- “Development of an educational program for mentors”;
Of these, 3 teachers and 3 mentors were trained in Finland (Jyväskylä, Lahti).

Mentoring (mentoring) is a new and important direction in the implementation of the clinical practice of students. From the medical organizations determined by the experimental site for the implementation of the educational program, mentors were appointed from among the nurses with extensive practical experience of at least 5 years in the main activity in accordance with the Regulation “On holding in 2014 – 2017. in the mode of learning experiment on the educational program of applied bachelor’s degree in the specialty “Nursing”. For practical training, clinical and pre-diploma practice, a tripartite agreement has been concluded between; clinical base, medical college and student.
